Sept.25.13 – Preparing my talk for #femrhet13. I’ve made a powerpoint, which will available on this page. I’m framing this talk, and my approach to negotiating the boundaries of “the dissertation” with Royster and Kirch’s Feminist Rhetorical Practices and Rhodes and Alexander’s “Queer: An Impossible Subject for Composition” from JAC. I’ve then compared graduate degree requirements across majors at MSU (Art, Music, and English), taking a peek outside MSU too (Duke).
My conclusions are that some sort of written component should be required, as well as a public exhibition beyond a defense.
I’ve also created this page on my website to archive and chronicle the ongoing negotiations and challenges that pop up as I attempt to make and submit video and walk away with a PhD.
